Daring Commitment
Acts 20:24 “I no longer count my life as dear to myself, I abandoned my personal aspirations and ambitions, I have offered myself as a living sacrifice to Christ”
- No such thing as Partial Commitment or Total Commitment
- It’s either you’re Committed or Not Committed
- Are You Committed or Spectator?
Commitment
A pledge to fulfil, an obligation, to obligate ourselves to a cause, vow, resolution, determination.
The problem with commitment is it’s always conditional
We are good in making excuses, but no excuse is acceptable to God
Daring to Commit
Your life is determined by how much you are willing to commit
We become who we are by our commitment
Great people are just ordinary people who decided to make a daring commitment
Commitment defines our life
And the key is to make good commitments against making bad commitments
Romans 6:13 “And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God”
Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
Our deepest needs of your life are met by your deepest commitments
1. Our need of God is only met by our commitment to worship
To strengthen my faith i must unite with others in worship
Worship is for God but it brings benefit to you
1. It Renew your faith
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint”
2. It restores your joy
Psalm 100:2 “Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.”
2. Our need of belonging is only met by commitment to fellowship
To discover my identity I must connect with others in fellowship
Fellowship is sharing your life with others
We only learn who we are in a relationship/ in community
You will never learn who you are with yourself alone.
Romans 12:4-5 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
Acts 2:42-47 “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Old Testament temple is the most segregated place in the world during that time.
3. Our deepest need of purpose is met by our commitment to the cause of Christ.
John 18:37 “Pilate therefore said unto him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, you said that I am a king. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice."
Definition of Cause: A principle, aim, to which one is committed and which one is prepared to defend or advocate.
His mission…must be our mission. He has called us to make an eternal difference
We need to fuel our lives with eternal things. We need to be driven by “The Cause.”
Challenge
Your life is determined by how much you are willing to commit
We become who we are by our commitment
Would you dare to make unconditional commitment?
