It May Get Worst, but Your Will be Done

Preacher:
Passage: Philippians 2:1-11

1% or 99.99% is still NOT 100%

No such thing as Partial Commitment or Total Commitment

It’s either you’re Committed or Not Committed

Commitment - a pledge to fulfill, an obligation, to obligate ourselves to a cause.

Synonyms: responsibility, pledge, promise, vow, resolution, determination.

Luke 9:23 “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me”

The problem with commitment is it’s always conditional

We are good in making excuses:

1. Why me?
2. I can’t - I’m not capable
3. I’m busy
4. Don’t Care - Don’t see the need

Things we are to be committed to

1.Committed to God
2.Committed to Others
3.Committed to our church family
4.Committed to the Cause of Jesus

We want to get the benefit instantly/immediately

-Marriage, Education, Relationship, Work, Church.

Commitment is needed to see the outcome

God will sometimes withhold the blessing to see if we are really committed

We will not appreciate the value with an instant result

Benefit is not what we get upfront

But how we finished after what we go thru in the process

We live in a generation where commitment is watered down because we want everything upfront

Vs. 1-4- Paul’s charged to the Philippians

Vs. 5-8- Christ’s humility

Vs 9-11- Christ is exalted

vs 1-4 – Be like minded, love one another

Paul is saying is that the benefit of church is not what you will get, but what you will give.

vs. 5 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus”

No point of committing to anything if your attitude hasn’t change that of Jesus Christ

Vs 6,7,8 “who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

Notice the progression of the text

1.Let this mind be in you which also in Christ Jesus
2.Who is equal to god but gave it all of
3.Emptied himself to come down
4.Live as servant and slave
5.Became obedient to god even to the point of death
6.Death on the cross

Vs. 9 “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name”

Commitment means i have to go through vs 5-8

Commitment means i have to deal with my good Friday

But if i stay committed to it Sunday morning is coming
